Wiki shopping

Tech types: please to be recommending the best free wiki engine software. Must be able to run on Linux. Current considerations are MediaWiki, TikiWiki, and DocuWiki. This would be a replacement for an old MoinMoin wiki engine.

Desired features include password authentication (possibly with groups and roles) and the ability to import content from other, older wiki engines.

Gracias.

WII!

So I finally broke down and bought a Wii. I've never really been a gamer, so I haven't owned a game console since I bought a Sega back when I was like 14 or so. WOW... Game systems have CHANGED! The Wii remote (Wiimote?) is pretty darn shnazzy! So far I've only played bowling with Eric, but it was a blast! I can't wait until I get my hands on a Wii Fit & a few more games.

...Oh, and our poor dog has already taken a blow to the head with the Wii Remote thingie... OOPS!

This is one of those days where I want to do about fifty bazillion things at once, including go for a bike ride, lift weights, drink, dance, sing, write an epic poem, fly across the ocean, fuck, go bowling, finish the remaining tournament website work, or just drop everything, start walking, and never stop.

A trip down memory lane

While looking for a picture for my dad, I came across this gem that shows just what a pretty little girl I was at age 12. This is why I keep my hair short now.

Cut for size and very 80's hair )

McCain’s very bad, no good talent for chronology (or Bush is not responsible for the oil price

Just what is up lately with John McCain? One has to wonder if his campaign is sabotaging him on purpose. Surely it can’t be the case that the candidate of a major American political party is completely without access to a basic fact checker?

Even a college-aged intern (with the Google or other basic Internet skills) ought to be able to help a guy out for next to nothing, without putting undue stress on McCain’s budget.

"Annoying, Party of One?!"

For three days straight at 7-Eleven, I've gotten stuck behind some guy trading in and buying more scratchoffs at the counter. ANNOYING!

Can the Bands Play On? The Live Music Task Force tunes up to protect Austin’s claim to fame

The Austin Chronicle: News: Can the Bands Play On?: The Live Music Task Force tunes up to protect Austin’s claim to fame: “Bands that formerly supplemented their limited local audiences and income by regional touring have seen the ever-rising price of gas devour the thin profit margins on out-of-town gigs. Once slacker-friendly, Central Austin is no longer affordable for a singer-songwriter eking out a living with a dream and a guitar. Could the famed Austin music scene be losing its vitality?

Among those taking these concerns seriously is Mayor Will Wynn, who issued a proclamation in January making 2008 ‘The Year of Austin Music.’ When speaking around town, the mayor carries the group’s audience-building message: Get off the couch, and go out to see at least one Austin band each month in 2008.”

(Via: The Austin Chronicle.)

It occurs to me that I haven’t been doing my part to help keep Austin’s music and art community vibrant and healthy. When I can find a schedule that allows me to, I think I’ll try to make a point to be a better patron of our local arts.

Crossing the line on Steve Jobs’ health

Crossing the line on Steve Jobs’ health | One More Thing - CNET News.com: “One clear sign that this is an unseemly exercise: if those who keep pushing the issue feel they have to repeatedly apologize for seeming insensitive, they’re probably being insensitive. Yes, Jobs is the CEO of a $135 billion company that has dramatically changed the world of technology and made countless people rich. And, as I wrote the last time we covered this, Apple’s board of directors has a clear duty to avoid falling into a situation resembling Woodrow Wilson’s final days in office.

However, the only responsibility that Apple’s board of directors has to its shareholders is to make sure that Steve Jobs’ health is not a liability, and disclosing anything beyond that would be a mistake.”

(Via c|net.)

Steve Jobs is not a public official, and as I see it hasn’t given up his right to privacy simply because he’s a CEO. Jobs has also done as much as one could ask to ensure that Apple has the talent in place to continue should anything happen to him, with a large stable of talented managers in every division of the business.

Now I'm upset

Estelle Getty died.

[info]pbxxx

Some people need to drop the attitude or it is going to get very ugly... quickly...

Edit: I wish I was just fucking rich and didn't have to worry about this shit. I am *this* to running out of this building and not looking back. I want to scream, yell and cry at the same time.

[info]markolas

So yeah, I still haven't really gotten out of bed, except to fix something to eat and go to the bathroom. Maybe I'll do some dishes at some point today, but who knows?

I've been more or less over Stevie Nicks for a couple of years at least, but she did an episode of Soundstage recently, which I missed, but some clips from it are on YouTube. Not all of it is as awful as I expected. The two better songs they've got posted are her cover of "Crash Into Me" (yes, the Dave Matthews song - a definite wtf? moment) and Fleetwood Mac's "Sara."

She caterwauls through "Stand Back," "Gold Dust Woman," and a few others - the covers of Tom Petty and Led Zeppelin are especially atrocious. I really cannot imagine paying $200 to see one of her shows unless she starts picking some songs that she can actually sing.

:-(

It's 10:30 and I'm still in the bed.

There are at least half a dozen things I could be doing, but instead I'm online reading the news and surfing LJ, MySpace, YouTube, and Buddhist message boards.

This never gets old, no matter how many times I watch it:

WTF?

I don't understand how you can have ADA-compliant apartments on any upper floors. I mean... why change my island to be ADA-compliant when I'm on the FOURTH floor? If there is a fire and the elevators automatically position to the ground floor... how are wheelchair-bound people going to get out?

DOH!

Last night, around 8:30pm, I lit a candle in my living room.

Today, around 1:40pm, I blew it out.

WHY??? BECAUSE I FORGOT THAT IT WAS LIT!  OH MY LORD!

I'm glad the house didn't burn down or the candle didn't explode while I was at orientation this morning.

So I guess, me+candles=not such a good idea.
